Despite the demands of his profession, Matthew considers his greatest identity to be that of a devoted husband and a loving father.

Beyond his professional and family commitments, he has diverse interests. An avid reader, he draws inspiration from the works of authors like Brandon Sanderson and Adrian Tchaikovsky. He also explores the culinary arts, delving not only into cooking techniques but also the nuances of nutrition and cost-saving methods. His culinary passion was ignited by watching cooking videos, particularly those by Binging with Babish. He also finds solace in embracing nature, fulfilling his wanderlust by embarking on travel expeditions. From the pristine national parks of Vancouver, Canada, to the enchanting landscapes of Iceland and India, he seeks adventure and serenity in equal measure.

Sommers’s commitment to his community is equally commendable. He volunteered at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, IA, offering general support and comfort to patients in the Oncology Unit. His philanthropic spirit extends further through contributions to charitable causes, including MN State Troopers, MN DNR, and JDRF, underscoring his dedication to positively impacting society.
